Woman arrested after attempting to climb Buckingham Palace gates

iStock/Thinkstock(LONDON) -- A woman was arrested in London on Saturday after officers observed her climbing the front gates of Buckingham Palace, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Police said in a statement that the woman was "quickly detained by officers" at 5:40 p.m. local time and did not gain access to the palace grounds.

The woman, believed to be in her 30's, was arrested on suspicion of trespass and taken into custody at a central London police station, according to police.

The incident is not being treated as terrorist-related, police said.

A crowd of tourists reportedly gathered during the incident with many recording the events on phones, according to the BBC.
