In this episode, Christiane Amanpour interviews Timothy Geithner, the Secretary of the Treasury for the U.S.  Geithner will be in charge of the mess if politicians cannot come to an agreement about the debt ceiling before the deadline.  Then, Christiane hosts a roundtable with George Will, Arianna Huffington, Alice Rivlin, and Charlie Gasparino about what would happen with the U.S defaults on its credit.  Finally, Chrsitiane sits down to interview NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his 2 aides about the legalization of gay marriage in New York State.  Bloomberg offered to officiate the wedding of his aides the day gay marriage became legal in New York.

This Week (7.17.11) - Differences Over Taxes, Spending Still Hold Back Budget Talks

In this episode, Christiane Amanpour sits down with White House Budget Director Jack Lew who is very familiar with the continuing arguments about the debt ceiling and budget debate. Then she interviews Minority House Whip Senator John Kyle of Arizona who talks about the rising tempers of the leaders of both parties. In the Roundtable, Christiane discusses more about the budget crisis and politics in Washington with George Will, Cokie Roberts, Congressman Raul Labrador, a Republican Tea Party freshman from Idaho; Matthew Dowd, former campaign strategist for George W.
